Denver-Based Telecommunications Company to Provide High-Speed Internet, Voice and Data Lines at Pepsi Center for DNCC, Delegates and Members of the Media
DENVER- The Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) and Denver-based Qwest Communications International Inc. (NYSE: Q) announced today that Qwest has been named as the official telecommunications provider for the 2008 Democratic National Convention, to be held Aug. 25-28 in Denver. In that role, Qwest will provide the network and people to help link the Convention to a nationwide and worldwide audience.
"Qwest has been a longtime partner of the Denver business community - and today we are proud to call them our partner, too," said Leah D. Daughtry, CEO of the DNCC. "Qwest's state-of-the-art network and skilled union labor force will play a significant role in helping us deliver a spectacular event to the American people and media outlets around the world."
As the official telecommunications provider, Qwest will provide wireline voice and data services, including high-speed Internet, for the DNCC, delegates and more than 15,000 members of the media expected to visit Denver for the Convention. Qwest also will supply the cabling for voice and data services for the DNCC and media at the Pepsi Center, site of the 2008 Democratic National Convention.
"Qwest's nationwide advanced data and voice network will transform how Convention organizers, delegates and the media watch, listen to and broadcast information from the 2008 Convention floor," said Qwest Colorado State President Chuck Ward. "And cutting-edge technology is only part of the equation. We have the most extensive and sophisticated network in Denver, supported by the most experienced, knowledgeable and service-oriented employees in the industry."
Working alongside the DNCC's technology staff, Qwest has started developing and defining data and communication requirements for the Convention, which will include a wide range of telecommunications services from basic voice service to various high-performance solutions. Just recently, Qwest assisted the DNCC in building the voice and data infrastructure for the DNCC's new headquarters in Denver.
The 2008 Democratic National Convention is expected to pump an estimated $160 million into the Denver area's economy and draw approximately 35,000 visitors to the region.
