DNCC Names United as Official Airline Provider for 2008 Democratic National Convention
November 08, 2007
DENVER - The Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) today named United Airlines as the official airline provider for the 35,000 delegates, media and guests flying to Denver, Colo. for the 2008 Democratic National Convention. This marks the fourth consecutive time United has been selected as the official airline provider for a Democratic National Convention.
A longtime partner of the community hosting the 2008 Democratic National Convention, the airline employs more than 5,200 people in the Denver area, including an estimated 4,600 employees at Denver International Airport. The DNCC's selection of United also represents the Party's longstanding commitment to the nation's working men and women.
"As one of our most trusted partners from conventions past, we are pleased to have United back on board for 2008," said Leah D. Daughtry, CEO of the DNCC. "They have assembled a wide array of flight options that should make travel to and from the Mile High City convenient and affordable for our delegates and other honored guests."
"We are proud to be the official carrier of the Democratic National Convention and to have the opportunity to showcase our second home in Denver," said Mark Anderson, Vice President - Government Affairs for United. "On behalf of all of our employees, we look forward to welcoming the thousands of delegates and other attendees to the Mile High City."
Denver International Airport is home to United's second-largest and busiest cross-country hub. In partnership with United Express, the airline offers a total of 420 average daily departures from Denver, including 16 daily international flights. In 2006, United recorded carrying more than 12.7 million passengers from Denver International Airport.
As the official airline provider, United is offering discounted fares to delegates and DNCC officials and staff as they travel to and from Denver. In keeping with the commitment to make this the "greenest" political convention on record, DNCC leadership is encouraging staff members to purchase offsets for all air travel. Convention organizers are also exploring creative ways to encourage delegates to offset their travel to the four-day event by purchasing offsets and making other choices that will help ensure that Convention travel is as environmentally sustainable as possible.
For travel arrangements, United will provide a special toll-free number for reservations. Travelers will also be able to book flights online at www.United.com . The airline has assigned a special number for delegates and DNCC staff to use when booking flights.
Held from August 25-28, 2008, the Convention is expected to pump an estimated $160 million into the Denver area's economy and draw approximately 35,000 visitors to the region.
