Convention Credentials to Feature Images Reflecting Denver's History and Diversity
DENVER - A local woman has been selected to design the credentials for the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver, the Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) announced today. Kristi King, an Arvada-based graphic designer, will incorporate images and landmarks reflecting Denver's rich history and diversity into the look of the credentials provided to delegates, members of the media and other guests during Convention week.
"As our many guests begin to arrive in Denver, our credentials will play an essential role in managing the flow of traffic both inside and outside of the Pepsi Center," said Leah D. Daughtry, CEO of the DNCC. "But credentials are also an important keepsake - something to save for years to come and remind us of the host city where our Party made history. I have no doubt Kristi, a lifelong Coloradoan, will ensure this year's credentials are a unique memento showcasing Denver's own historic moments and most significant landmarks."
In keeping with the DNCC's commitment to making the event the most environmentally-sustainable Democratic Convention in history, the credentials will be printed on 100 percent post-consumer recycled chlorine-free paper. A select set of credentials will highlight Denver's emergence as a city dedicated to sustainable development of eco-friendly practices.
"This is an exciting time for our city, and I'm pleased I could be part of a project that highlights Denver's history and embraces the green movement, which looks to the future," said King. "The credential designs will most certainly celebrate the past but do so using a modern look. Add to that the use of environmentally-sustainable materials, and I think we'll have a design that's both energizing and responsible."
During King's more than 20 years as a graphic designer, her clients have included the Denver Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau and The Museo de las Américas. The contract with King marks the first time since 1972 that the DNCC has selected a local designer to work on the credentials.

Held from August 25-28, 2008, the Convention is expected to pump an estimated $160 million into the Denver area's economy and draw as many as 50,000 visitors to the region.
