Chapter Four

County and State Conventions

In states that use a caucus system to elect delegates to attend the National Convention in Denver, individuals must generally run from one caucus level to the next. Many times the caucus process starts at the precinct-level. From there a precinct may elect individuals to serve as delegates to a county convention. A county convention may then select delegates to attend congressional district conventions and a State Party Convention. At some caucus level a final allocation of presidential preference is determined and individuals are elected to serve as delegates to the National Convention.
